The Advocate – August 2026

Gold Coast Seniors Got Talent Winners

The most recent ABC 4 Corners investigation into aged care, The Waiting Game, put the spotlight back on what advocates have been saying for some time about the aged care reforms – the Integrated Assessment Tool (IAT) isn’t working, but more importantly, the Support at Home system is not meeting the needs of older people.

The NDIS Amendment Bill has passed, which will mean the most significant changes to the scheme we have seen to date. Our independent disability advocates are here to support anyone who is impacted or worried by the changes to help you understand your rights and options.

In this edition, we also wrap up two memorable events we were proud to host on the Gold Coast recently: the Australian Elder Abuse Conference 2026 and the Seniors Got Talent Multicultural Lunch.
