Aged and Disability Advocacy Australia (ADA Australia) is a not-for-profit, independent organisation serving metropolitan, regional, rural, and remote communities across Queensland, including the Sunshine Coast region.
ADA Australia’s goal and mission are to improve the well-being of older people and people living with disabilities through advocacy services. Our Sunshine Coast team offers aged care advocacy and community legal services.
All our services are free, confidential, and client-focused. We always put our clients first, making your needs and preferences a priority.
ADA Australia’s Sunshine Coast Services
Our experienced team provides aged care advocacy and community legal services on the Sunshine Coast. Through our services, we make it our goal to help people understand their rights and needs and advocate for them. If you or someone you care about requires help accessing aged care services or has any concerns regarding the system, the team at ADA Australia can help guide and navigate you through it.
The ADA Australia Sunshine Coast team can also assist with providing legal advice and representation and non-legal advocacy for guardianship and administration matters.
Aged Care Advocacy
Our Sunshine Coast team provides aged care advocacy which is designed to help seniors uphold their rights and have their voices heard. These services include assisting people in accessing appropriate care and support options.We understand too well that aged care services can be challenging to navigate at the best of times—especially alone. Our team can help you through the process, understand the system, and access residential and home care options. The ADA Australia team can also assist with communicating care preferences, addressing aged-care-related concerns, and reviewing and negotiating care plans. We can also make referrals for assessments and additional services.
Our team is also experienced in assisting with service agreements, fees, statements, and budgets. Any seniors living in the Sunshine Coast region who have issues accessing aged care support services or have concerns regarding their service provisions for the following Australian Government-funded aged care programs are eligible for our help.
- Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)
- Home Care Packages (HCP)
- Residential Aged Care Homes
- Disability Support for Older Australians (DSOA) Program
- Commonwealth-funded dementia services
- Flexible care services, including:
- Short-term restorative care
- Transition care
- The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program
ADA Law Community Legal Service
Clients eligible for assistance with elder abuse from ADA Australia on the Sunshine Coast are any adults over 65 years of age, residing in residential aged care homes, and experiencing (or at risk of experiencing) elder abuse from either formal or informal decision-makers, carers, or friends. This can be:
- Physical abuse
- Psychological or emotional abuse, like threats
- Financial abuse, for example, forced changes to a will, withholding funds
- Social abuse, which may come in the form of restricting access to family, friends, or activities
- Any forms of sexual abuse, for example, any sexual activity the person hasn’t consented to
- Neglect, for example, failing to provide necessities of life and care
- Chemical abuse, such as over or under-medicating
