Disability Advocacy
What we provide We provide Information and Individual advocacy to people living with disabilityu and experiencing Instances of abuse,neglect or discrimination.
Eligible clients Eligible clients for this Disability Advocacy service are people of any age, with a permanent or likely to be permanent disability, which results in substantially reduced capacity for communication, learning or mobility and the need for ongoing support services.This includes, but is not limited to: physical, cognitive, sensory, learning or neurological disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental delay, Acquired Brain Injury, psychiatric or mental health illness.
This advocacy service only offers support in the following locations.

Gold Coast Region including:

  • Gold Coast Hinterland
  • Main Beach
  • Surfers Paradise
  • Broadbeach

We can help with …

We help people to protect their rights.This may include help resolving issues in the areas of:

  • Neglect
  • Discrimination
  • Abuse
  • Service provision
  • Accessing and using services or supports
  • Decision making

We help people protect their rights by helping them to:

  • Understand their rights
  • Develop an advocacy plan of action
  • Work towards goals detailed in their advocacy plan

An advocate may:

  • support someone to speak up for themselves
  • support someone to communicate their preferences
  • provide information on options and/or referrals
  • writing letters,go with clients to meetings and make phone calls

If you need help with a discrimination, abuse or neglect concern, contact us by selecting the ‘Request and Advocate’ button below. If we cannot help with your issue we can find an appropriate referral for you.
ADA Australia also offer a range of other advocacy services which may be able to assist with other issues including:

  • For cases relating to abuse by an aged or community care service provider or staff member, refer to Aged and Community Care Advocacy
  • For cases to help people be heard in the appointment of substituted decision makers, or Elder abuse concerns in residential care or in the community where there is an upcoming QCAT issue, refer to our Human Rights & Elder Abuse Service

Our advocacy service is:

  • Independent – Free from conflict of interest, not affiliated with direct care providers
  • Confidential – We seek your permission before acting and follow strict confidentiality processes
  • Client Directed – We don’t make decisions for you. We can help you understand your options and follow your direction.
  • Individual – We work with each individual, to help give them a voice
  • Short Term and Issue specific
  • Free

ADA Australia’s The Disability Advocacy Service is funded by Commonwealth Department of Social Services under the National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP).
