Aged & Community Care Advocacy
What we provide ADA Australia’s Aged and Community Care Advocacy service provides information and individual advocacy support to people who have issues related to Commonwealth funded aged care services or Queensland Community Care Services in Queensland. See below for client eligibility.
Eligible clients
Eligible clients for this advocacy service are people who have issues with accessing services, or are experiencing service provision and care related problems for the following Commonwealth funded aged care programs:
  • Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)
  • Home Care Packages (HCP)
  • Residential Aged Care Homes
  • Queensland Community Care Services (QCCS)
  • Commonwealth Continuity of Support (CoS) Program
  • Commonwealth funded dementia services
  • Flexible care services, including:
    • the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program
    • the Innovation Pool Program
    • Multi-purpose services
    • Transition care
    • Short-term restorative care

This service offers support to individuals anywhere in Queensland.

We may also be able to assist exploring available care options by

  • Making and following up on referrals
  • Supporting clients at assessments
  • Identifying local home care providers and aged care facilities
  • Explaining financial assessments and fees.
Our Service Our advocacy service is:
  • Independent – Free from conflict of interest, not affiliated with direct care providers
  • Confidential – We seek your permission before acting and follow strict confidentiality processes
  • Client Directed – We don’t make decisions for you. We can help you understand your options and follow your direction.
  • Individual – We work with each individual, to help give them a voice
  • Short Term and Issue specific
  • Free
Funding

ADA Australia’s Aged Care Advocacy Service is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health, who supplies funding to the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) to deliver the National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP). ADA Australia is the Queensland Service Delivery Organisation for OPAN and NACAP advocacy services.

 

ADA Australia’s Community Care Advocacy Service is funded by the Queensland Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors.

Advocacy Education We also provide free rights-based education sessions to both consumers and providers of Commonwealth funded aged care services. For more information go to Advocacy Education.
We cannot help with … While we provide a range of services to our clients, ADA Australia Aged and Community Care Advocacy Service is unable to assist with:
  • Advocacy support or assistance outside of Queensland
  • Centrelink issues – please refer to Centrelink Complaints Process – 1800 132 468
  • Housing or rental issues – please refer to QSTARS 1300 744 263
  • Retirement Village issues – please refer to PAVIL (Caxton Legal Centre) on (07) 3214 6333 or the Department of Housing and Public Works (07) 3008 3450
  • Providing recommendations on care providers or aged care facilities – please search for an Aged Care Broker Service
  • Financial or legal advice
